Midnight the Burned Dog Goes Home -- Thursday October 24th, 2013

THE DAWNING OF MIDNIGHT, the cruelly burned dog rescued by a local rescue group is ready for release from the hospital……………and is preparing for a whole new life in her ‘forever home’.
Midnight won the hearts of hundreds of animal lovers who followed her painful journey from the streets of Miami, where she was picked up with severe burns from the top of her head to the base of her tail. Her skinless red flesh was so badly burned it had formed a protective shell trying to heal itself. She could barely move and was in extreme pain, danger of deadly infection and slated for shelter euthanasia. Fortunately for her, a kind hearted shelter worker saw the light in her eyes and the love in her heart and called Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue who rushed to her aid.
Her journey from Miami to a temporary foster who loving cared for her, and finally into the healing hands of professionals at Dr. Andrew Turkell’s Calusa Veterinary Center in Boca Raton has been a long and painful one………..but Midnight’s sun is on the rise.
After spending two months healing from surgery to remove the hardened scabbing, constant tissue cleansing and bandage changing, and up to three times daily in a special Hyperbaric Chamber that helped close the wounds and heal the tissue, she has come up shinning and is ready for release into the loving shelter of her new ‘forever home’.
A celebration of her progress and ADOPTION is planned for Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 6 PM at Calusa Veterinary Emergency and Hyperbaric Center, 6900 Congress Avenue, Boca Raton, Fl.
For loyal followers of Midnight’s journey -- from near deaths door, through painful surgery and rehabilitation, we would like to cordially invite those who participated to join us as she prepares for her journey into a new life with her adopted family.

October 23, 2012- The public, and their leashed pets, are invited to an evening entitled “Fur the Love of Rescues, Calendar Release Party” on Friday, November 2, from 7:00 – 10:00 pm at SoLita Italian Restaurant in Delray Beach.
Bring the family for an evening to support the Big Dog Ranch Rescue, Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue and Pekingese Rescue during the calendar release party. The calendar, which was conceptualized by Dana Silbersweig, was created to benefit the three rescue groups. Professional photographer, Shelley Arminio, donated her time to take professional photos of dogs, cats and other furry family members for this delightful and heartwarming calendar. Each of the 18 months exhibit a rescued pet (or pets) throughout the South Florida area whose parent had contacted Dana and with intentions to support the calendar’s causes.

JUSTIN BARTLETT ANIMAL RESCUE FLYING HIGH WITH PILOTS N PAWS IN MASSIVE AIRLIFT THAT SAVES 318 DOGS
JUSTIN BARTLETT ANIMAL RESCUE is proud to be a part of the PILOTS N PAWS air rescue that recently helped save more than three hundred homeless dogs scheduled to be put to sleep in and around the Charlotte NC area. Thanks to the efforts of Art Dryer and wife Patty and over 80 private plane owners and members of this elite group, those dogs are now flying high and on their ways to their forever homes thanks to efforts of volunteer aviators known as Pilots N’ Paws.
More than 30 dogs were brought to Palm Beach County where they are being fostered in private homes by volunteers with JUSTIN BARTLETT ANIMAL RESCUE until they are adopted out to their 'Forever Homes".
"It was a great honor and quite an adventure," said Diane Potter, Adoption Counselor with the Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue who flew with the Dryers on the life saving mission. We flew out of the Lantana Airport in their four seater Cherokee on a bright sunny day..............perfect for flying. It was a four and a half flight before we landed in Charlotte, NC where nearly 80 other private planes sat on the ground among several giant hangers.
"Once we landed, we were treated to a beautiful pulled pork, cold slaw, biscuits, beans dinner with all the fixins' offered by Subaru and PetMate. Pilots and passengers mingled in the hanger for dinner talking flight patterns, comparing planes....................and talking about rescuing dogs....................300 dogs to be exact. The event was organized with hundreds of hours of coordination and labor by Debi Boies, co-founder/President of the Pilots N Paws program, along with the cooperation of dozens of shelters and their loyal volunteers.
"But the following morning was the real thriller. To see dozens and dozens of vans filled to the gills with every sort of dog imaginable. 80 pound dogs and four pound dogs, white ones, spotted ones, black ones, pregnant dogs, puppies, cats kittens everywhere you looked. And those pilots were carrying the crates with their dogs to their planes, packing in as many as safely possible and then lining up for a spectacular take off....................as the sun came up one after the other, speeding down the runway with pilots waving and dogs barking as the wheels lifted off for their flights to destinations all up and down the east coast.
"In our four seater plane, we had a mommy Husky and her seven pups, a pregnant beagle, two Shiatsu's, a lab, and not much room to move around. But soaring at 5,500 feet at 163 miles an hour, swerving in and around of the clouds and distant rain showers, with puppies yipping in the cargo hold just behind my seat.......................it was a glorious day. One I'll never forget.

Firefighters Heat it Up for Mutts & Muttinis at SoLita in Delray

Follow Cheeto, a Rescue Dog, as He Stars in Florida Commercial!
June 25, 2012- Cheeto, a 3 year-old rescue Pomeranian, has been picked as the star for a commercial to be filmed this Friday! Stacey Marino, Owner, Handler & Trainer of Animal Crackers Pet Talent Agency, specially chose Cheeto from the Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue Group to star in a Commercial for a Condo-Community in Naples. Stacey finds that rescue dogs truly are little stars, “Rescues seem to just know they were rescued – their love is truly unconditional. And I love this quote from Henry Wheeler Shaw, “Money will buy a pretty good dog, but it won't buy the wag of his tail.” The truth is in the Tail!,” says Stacey.
Cheeto will be sharing his ‘tail’ of stardom this week as he treks across Florida from the Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue of West Palm Beach to his green room in Naples via the Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue Facebook Page. Cheeto will also be moving into his ‘Fur-ever’ Home after he finishes filming.

Dog Breeder Calls Upon Local Animal Rescue Group for Help with His Dogs
June 7, 2012- An Orlando dog breeder, who wishes to remain nameless, called upon the Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue of Royal Palm Beach to help with his breeding dogs and puppies who he could no longer care for. The local Rescue Group gathered their troops and jumped to the rescue of the sick, homeless, pregnant and dying dogs.
The Breeder and wife, who are sadly dying of cancer, was ready to surrender his dogs to any shelter, even the high-kill shelters. Deven Soto, a volunteer with the Rescue Group, said the group wasn’t about to have that, “The minute we got the call, we gathered some foster homes, and hit the road. When we arrived, the dogs were living in outside pens, and had never been inside a home, let alone had a family. Some were very scared, and ran at the sight of people. The adult dogs were very matted in urine, and feces and some were very sick.” (One of the dogs, Penny, is pictured here both the day of pick up and after her rescue.)
The volunteer and donation only based group does rescues like this with their available funds. At this time the group had room for 11 dogs and took 12 and has intentions to return for a Phase II pickup as soon as more funds are available; with a huge thank you to My Whole Pet Market in Royal Palm Beach for the help of transportation and boarding.
When the group arrived back in South Florida, each rescue got much needed baths, shots, and heartworm tests. The dogs are suffering from a multitude of health issues from ear infections so intense that the ear is bleeding, to skin conditions, possible pregnancies, parvo, blindness, and positive heartworm tests. The dogs that are testing positive for heartworm have quite a battle ahead of them.
The group recently received a $500 donation from Christa McAuliffe's Animal Rescue Club, led by Dana Silbersweig, a local area middle school teacher and active volunteer with Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue. Dana said, “When our Club (composed of middle school students at the local school) heard about this rescue they immediately met and easily decided that they wanted to donate the money so the rest of the rescues could be picked up.”
Even with the recent donation, the group is in need of monies to help pay for medical bills for these rescues. “We need contributions to help with medical bills. As long as we know we have a cushion for taking care of these guys....it will allow us to continue rescuing animals, while we socialize these guys, and wait for them to heal,” continued Ms Soto.
